3D Design & Fab 6-7
Rubric
At a more advanced level, 3D design and printing move beyond basic model creation to deeper technical and engineering skills. Students learn to use parametric modeling, precise measurements, scaling, and tolerances to design functional parts that must fit and move correctly. They explore concepts such as structural integrity, material properties, load distribution, and design optimization to improve durability and efficiency. Advanced learners also analyze print settings such as infill, layer height, supports, and print orientation to refine quality and performance. Through iterative prototyping, testing, and redesign, students strengthen computational and spatial thinking while applying real-world engineering processes. This higher level of 3D design prepares students for careers in fields such as mechanical engineering, architecture, industrial design, and advanced manufacturing while deepening the applied learning goals
