Video game design is an excellent way to build the Core Competencies in British Columbia’s education system. Through game design, students strengthen Communication skills by sharing ideas, pitching concepts, giving peer feedback, and presenting their finished games. They develop Thinking competencies by using creative and critical thinking to solve coding challenges, design engaging gameplay, and debug problems logically. Video game design also supports Personal and Social competencies, as students learn perseverance when projects don’t work the first time, collaborate effectively in teams, and take responsibility for meeting deadlines. By combining creativity, technology, and problem-solving, video game design provides an engaging and meaningful way for students to build the key competencies.
